The largest ray in the Gulf of California is the manta ray! They can grow 25 feet wide and weigh up to 3,500 pounds.
Rays have a sixth sense. Spooky! They have electrical sensors to find food. Located around the stingray’s mouth, these organs sense the natural electrical charges of prey.
Wiggle your nose! Go ahead. Try it. That’s cartilage. Rays are related to sharks because they have skeletons made of cartilage instead of bone.
They are quite the social butterflies. This species (Cownose ray) has been known to migrate in groups of thousands!
Relatives? The Cownose ray belongs to the Family Myliobatidae, which includes bat rays, manta rays and eagle rays.
